In the summer of 1961 Robert Rauschenberg moved his studio to 809 Broadway, while painter Öyvind Fahlström took the artist’s former Front Street studio. During this time he began his iconic series of silkscreen paintings, but he also pursued collaboration in more ambitious ways. Working with engineers Billy Klüver and Harold Hodges, he explored technology in his sound sculpture Oracle. He became increasingly involved with the newly formed Judson Dance Theater group, often using his studio as a rehearsal space.
