Weeks after the 2015 beach massacre in Sousse, Tunisia and the church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, street artist and @TEDFellow eL Seed painted this mural in London. The ornate script, inspired by classical Arabic, quotes John Locke, saying, “It is one thing to show a man that he is in error, and another to put him in possession of truth.” Most of eL Seed’s work expresses hope and unity, but this piece also makes a powerful call for collective responsibility. “War is individualistic — we always put blame on someone else. But the responsibility lies with all of us to find a way to keep it from happening again,” eL Seed says. Visit go.ted.com/activistart to see how other TED Fellows are blending activism and art.
