This 1870s Remington typewriter resembled the company's sewing machines: it came mounted on a sewing machine stand and had a foot-powered treadle to operate the carriage return and advance the paper. Available for $125, its keyboard was arranged in the QWERTY layout, and it could be used to type only capital letters.
This Friday and Saturday at the museum, we're hosting #TypeORama: curators will show unique typewriters from the collection out of storage, and Typewriter Rodeo will take requests for #TypewriterPoetry!
