Behind the tiger stripes on the chambered nautilus’ shell is a many-roomed home. As the nautilus grows, it creates more spiraling chambers - adults may have up to 30 - and moves into the outermost one. Fossilized shells with a similar structure have been found that would have been 20 or 30 feet long if uncoiled. Photo taken @montereybayaquarium.
