From Lebanon to Sweden.

I first met Oussama when I visited Lebanon for the first time with @refugees in 2015. Eight years later, we caught up on a call (I was calling him at the tent he used to live in!) and he told me about how he found safety and a new home in Sweden through the resettlement program. It was so cool to learn that he’s been training to become a nurse (And now he speaks English!) It was also very emotional to see him talk to the other refugee kids who he used to play with.

His message is “Just don’t give up”

Honoured to be passing the phone to my friend Oussama this #WorldRefugeeDay.

ウサマくんとは、２０１５年にはじめてのUNHCRミッションとしてレバノンを訪れた時に会いました。

それから８年後、僕たちは電話で再会し、彼は「第三カ国定住プログラム」を通じてスウェーデンに移住し、看護師になるために勉強していると話してくれました。

彼が電話を通じて昔キャンプで一緒に遊んでいた子供たちと話してる時は、色んな思いが溢れて胸にきました。

ウサマくんが頑張るほど、こういった環境にいる他の子供たちにもチャンスが広がります。

「あきらめないで」

これが彼からみんなへのメッセージでした。
