Known for its expertise in quilted outerwear, this was a culmination of a long collaborative process where we explored transferring our studio practices to the Lavenham framework and product. For the past two years, we explored re looking at their production material surplus, using design to utilise pre-consumer production off cuts and omitting and replacing synthetic garment content where possible. All Lavenham clothing is made on site at their factory in Suffolk. Locality and regionality has become a core area of research and development for us over the past few years in order to potentially reduce fibre miles and to aim for clearer supply chain transparency. Upon visiting the factory, we identified the potentials of the raw material physically surrounding the very factory site in its rural location; the sheep. From here we embarked on a long journey of discovering if this British wool fibre could be used within the classic Lavenham quilted product.
