We have set up an ‘alternative supplier’ database, working with UK textile companies who gather their off-cuts and surplus fabric and send it to us, in its many forms, for us to create garments with. For the spiral stripe series we took black fabric offcuts, in a variety of different fabrics and patchworked these fine, thin strips together. This then led us to develop patterns where these strips would twist and wrap themselves around the body, with no side seams. We see this as a creative method of ‘using up’ or ‘tidying up’ fabrics that might otherwise go unused or reach landfills, as there are currently little to no textile recycling available in the UK.
