My great-great-grandfather, Kikugorō Onoe V, adapted the Noh play of “Tsuchi Gumo” into a kabuki dance play with his creation. Lord Minamoto no Raikō has been severely ill, and out of nowhere a monk named “Chichū” appears in front of him. Chichū approaches Lord Raikō to pray for his recovery, but actually he is the spirit of a spider that has caused Raikō’s illness🕷 Raikō slashes at him with his celebrated sword “Hizamaru” but Chichū disappears. He has his loyal retainer, Hirai Yasumasa, follow the spider’s trace with his best four warriors and they finally kill the spider spirit.
