His wife, Okane, is fed up with him, but his daughter, Ohisa, tells him to pay back his debt with the big money she got for having sold herself in the red light district. Chōbei finally promises to quit gambling and drinking and to work hard, however... Chōbei saves a young man who is about to commit suicide and gives him all the money to help him out. He’s too nice, isn’t he? Then, on the next morning, the story is developed unexpectedly and everything comes to a happy ending. In the latest éclat magazine, I express Mr. Chōbei of this play “Bunshichi Mottoi”, in a modern fashion. This play is based on a Rakugo (or Japanese comic storytelling) and was adapted into a kabuki play, being filled with the close affectionate atmosphere of the people in Edo.
