As our studio was closed to visitors for most of 2020, we sadly missed the opportunities to share our working practices with groups and students during the events we once ran. For the start of 2021, we are opening up the studio once more - this time virtually, through a series of informal New Years Learning talks with the aim to share some of our practices from here in the studio. Phoebe will be hosting a series of 4 informal talks over 4 consecutive weeks, and sharing the process and elements of building a collection with greater respect to our planetary boundaries. WEEK TWO MATERIAL CHOICES Phoebe discusses approaching choosing materials and fabrics in respect to our planetary boundaries and how we can affect a more positive impact at the design stage with these choices. WEEK THREE APPROACHING CONSTRUCTED TEXTILES AND TEXTILE SURFACE DEVELOPMENT Phoebe discusses and talks through some of her constructed textile processes, the development of a new textile surface from inception and trials to final realisations into garments. WEEK FOUR APPROACHING ZERO-WASTE PATTERN CUTTING AND DRAPING Phoebe discusses and talks through how the studio approaches zero-waste pattern cutting and draping techniques in order to minimise pre-consumer waste from the design stage.
