"Kinshasa at Noon," new to the #MoMACollection and newly on view in our galleries, shows a bustling thoroughfare teeming with cars and people engaged in all sorts of daily activities—carting baskets of fruit, drinking sodas, and talking with friends.
Curator @smoothugochukwuc, artist Sammy Baloji, and anthropologist @boeckfilipde reflect on a generation of artists—including Moke, Chéri Samba, Maître Syms, and Bodys Isek Kingelez—who captured the modern city, from daily life and politics to music and La Sape style, in Congolese popular painting.
