In #CharlesAtlas’s 2011 installation, “Painting by Numbers,” a sea of digits swells and subsides over six acts. Instead of human dancers, the filmmaker and video artist cast the numbers 1 through 6 as the protagonists of his intricately choreographed video, evoking the pervasiveness of mathematical algorithms in our increasingly technologized society.
