Brahma, who calls the @worldbirdsanctuary home, is the only Pondicherry vulture currently in North America. It was once believed that the striking bald head of this vulture was a form of protection against infection, as this species is known for sticking its entire head into a carcass while feeding. However, researchers now think it may play an important role in the bird’s ability to maintain its internal temperature. In the wild, Pondicherry vultures are found primarily in northern India, where they inhabit open country, cultivated, and semi-desert areas.
