Among the most pressing of the challenges Sudan faces today is its economy, battered by decades of mismanagement and corruption. The cost of some staple foods like bread and sugar have doubled over the past few weeks, driving inflation to a record high of 167%. Seemingly endless bread and fuel lines are a common site across the country, and on September 10 Sudan declared an economic state of emergency. The country’s one-year-old transitional government has been battling multiple crises in 2020, including the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic and massive flooding. #sudan #history #economy
