Residing in the tropical rainforests of southwest Sri Lanka, 60% of the western purple-faced langur’s diet consists of leaves, with fruits and flowers making up the rest. Like many Old World monkeys, these primates have a sacculated stomach, which is specially evolved to help break down plant material. They have also been observed eating soil from termite mounds because it contains minerals that aid in digestion and defend against plant toxins.
