E-J has chosen to highlight the life of the Chevalier D'Eon this #PrideWeekend. This print shows D'Eon, who lived openly as both a man and a woman in the 18th and early 19th century, standing on a plinth in front of a jury of matrons, who were to ‘decide' on the Chevalier's sex. E-J says: “D'Eon's sex was a source of fascination for the British press and its public throughout the last half of the 18th century and beyond. They were repeatedly ridiculed as half-man, half-woman. The British Museum's collection reveals D'Eon occupied both male and female gender identities in both public and private life, living in older age – and dying – as a woman. This Pride, we should reflect upon the fact that this 18th-century jury could just as readily be assembled today.” Read more of the Chevalier's story and find more objects selected by volunteers, researchers and partners that reflect on LGBTQ histories – link in bio. #PrideMonth #Pride #ChevalierDEon」6月29日 0時25分 - britishmuseum
