ガゴシアン・ギャラリーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ガゴシアン・ギャラリーInstagram)「#GagosianOnline: The second cycle of Basel Online is now live on gagosian.com. Whether on spiritual, formal, or social terms, these works employ divergent artistic approaches that provoke reflection in the viewer. For example, Jennifer Guidi’s meditative, atmospheric painting demonstrates techniques inspired by Eastern art practices, whereas Donald Judd’s wall-mounted plywood box is liberated from allusion and referentiality, allowing the dynamic relations between light, volume, and form to come into focus. In his vibrantly colored, large-format abstract spray painting, Sterling Ruby sublimates the cultural codes of dominance found in the tradition of street graffiti, while Andreas Gursky produces a staggering view of consumer culture and precarious labor in contemporary society through his immense photograph of an Amazon distribution center. Where his earlier “Civil Tapestries” were made entirely from strips of stitched fire hose to directly invoke the sanctioned violence by US law enforcers against civil rights activists in the 1960s through a seductive abstract formalism, a new work by Theaster Gates, which introduces strips of worker’s blue denim alongside the industrial hose, reflects on the relationship between power and class at the core of conflict in today’s America.
