Money was a bit tight, but it wasn’t the reason that I didn’t feel like taking a birthday trip, or throwing a party; I just couldn’t find the motivation to do all that. Shortly after that, I found a job application that seemed to be tailor-made for me. So much so, that despite my dedication to freelancing, I did my best to score the interviews one after another. It all seemed to be getting very well. On the afternoon of my birthday, when I was busy cooking up for a small last minute birthday gathering, they called me to say they had moved on with another candidate. The shadow of this news was cast on all party. Early January 2020 I decided that this year I would travel for my birthday. After many reflections on the location, I opted for Vienna. European city, fascinating food and wine scene, abondance of art and culture, reasonable prices. Little did I know that the universe had other plans. By early February cancellations started and I started wondering whether it was a good idea to travel at this moment. But my decision was firm, so I managed to get some new gigs and ensure the income I needed. By late February the airline canceled my flight because of the #coronavirus emergency. The rest is history. I got hit by a car in early March and ended up in bed with a leg cast. Then we were put under #lockdown. Today I made a pizza with a mixture I’d found in the back of the pantry. It turned out nasty. But nonetheless I’m quite happy, mostly because after drinking half a bottle of Valpolicella last night I got a good night’s sleep after god knows how long. I might try to wash my hair, but all that pizza-making was quite exhausting. Later, I have 2 virtual parties on Zoom, one in Italian, another in Persian. And I’m content with that. All in all, it’s been a happy birthday and I’m feeling grateful. It couldn’t be any more different than last year. Thanks for all the sweet birthday messages. P.S.
