How are you dealing with all this uncertainty and stress? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 10 days ago, when we still hadn’t been put under lockdown and we were simply “self isolating”, I went out to do some grocery shopping. I was looking forward to making some chicken broth. Little did I know this was about to become the scariest night of my life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Walking on the crosswalk of the street I live on, I was hit by a car that “simply” didn’t stop. I saw and felt the crash, and rolled over in what seemed to be a never-ending whirl of death. When it finally stopped, it was replaced by a deep cold shock, bitter hot fear and excruciating pain. I thought the worst. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nearly 15 hours later, I was dismissed from the empty-ish and masked hospital with a pair of crutches, miraculously with only a fractured knee (in a full leg cast) and many bruises and NOTHING ELSE. Since that moment, all I have been feeling is true gratitude. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gratitude for friends who cut me out of my torn cloths with scissors, brought me food, did my grocery shopping, made my bed and took me to my doctor appointments. Gratitude for being alive, and well, despite the fractures and bruises. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In just 4 short days, it’s Norouz, the Persian new year, and two weeks after that is my birthday. Incidentally, April 3rd, the day that for now marks the deadline of the lockdown. I will still be in cast, and we will all still be in quarantine. People are organizing grand things, and setting huge goals for the time of lockdown. As for me, I’m planning to rest and heal properly, with little accomplishments in between. Like the time I washed my hair, or yesterday when I unloaded the dishwasher, or today that I haven’t taken any painkillers yet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My only plan so far is to keep my spirits high and help those around me do the same.
