The chilly winter air is starting to be laced with one of my favourite smells: the sweet cinnamon of Ume trees blossoming #梅 this gorgeous fluffy tree is a Japanese Plum tree—called Ume in Japanese—and it will grow firm, tart little green/yellow plums. I used them to make plum wine in a Martina’s Midnight Munchies 🥃 They’re also pickled and salted #umeboshi and used inside onigiri 🍙 In my first year of living in Japan I mistook these gorgeous Plum trees for early blooming Sakura trees #さくら I’m sorry Ume, forgive me! 😭 I know the difference now and I love you just the way your are~
