Which kangaroo is more suited for climbing trees, rather than hopping on the ground? The tree kangaroo! There are more than 10 species of tree kangaroo of the genus Dendrolagus that inhabit tropical forests across Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. These macropods are equipped with strong forelimbs to help them scale tall trees—climbing as high as a 10-story building—where they spend their time snacking on leaves, flowers, and fruits. Being so dependent on trees makes them extremely vulnerable to habitat loss from deforestation; they’re also threatened by being hunted for food.
