What frog is nocturnal, has “horns,” and may try to eat anything that fits in its mouth? Meet the Amazon horned frog (Ceratophrys cornuta), a critter whose mouth is said to be 1.5 times wider than its body length. The “horns” above its eyes and cryptic coloration give this frog a leaf-like appearance—letting the voracious amphibian ambush unsuspecting prey like mice, fish, and smaller frogs. Its camouflage also helps the frog stay hidden from potential foes.
