Literary giant James Baldwin was born on this day in 1924. In late October of 1968, seven months after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Baldwin delivered a powerful tribute at The Museum of Modern Art’s memorial evening coinciding with a benefit exhibition for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the civil rights organization of which Dr. King had served as president from 1957 until his death. What is sad is that things started to change but has now become worst. Not only does this speech apply to then but to today and not only against Black people but now comprise Latinos and all People of Color. We are going backwards and we cannot let Hate win.
