They are part of the Tsuzureko Odaiko Festival, held in the Takanosu district of Kita-Akita, where locals gather each year to pray for rain and an abundant harvest. 🌾 The festival also includes the dance of the shishi, an imaginary animal resembling a lion, plus a hopping-style, local folk-art dance known as yakko-odori. Once, only young boys participated, but with numbers of children declining, girls have recently joined in.
