July 20, 1969, 10:56 p.m.: Millions watched Neil Armstrong take the first steps on the Moon.
Fifty years later, our @airandspacemuseum has recreated #Apollo11’s story on the face of the Washington Monument where we could gather to celebrate #Apollo50, reflect on its legacy, and dream about our next giant leap.
The #GoForTheMoon projection show was commissioned by the National Air and Space Museum and created by @59_productions.

We loved the event, but were disappointed that so many people were standing and blocking the view. This also contributed to tense, angry moments between those blocking the screen, and those sitting behind them. For future events, you should enforce sitting for the center, and standing on the sides.

Thank you thank you! It was amazing. I’ve never been on the mall with so many people and it was SILENT (except for the clapping and cheering upon takeoff and landing)!! We were all mesmerized amazed and proud!

This was the coolest celebration ever! My daughter and I enjoyed it so much and she learned quite a bit! Thank you for providing this. And for jazzing up the monument as a projector. ?
