Saghar Setarehさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Saghar SetarehInstagram)「Improvised, late, unstyled and ridiculously delicious “Gheymeh-Badenjan”, the Persian yellow lentil (chana daal) stew with fried eggplants and tomatoes. Accidentally vegan, because I never have meat at home, although the original version does. The ultimate comfort food, Iranian style. Gheymeh holds many stories. From the lunches after school, to family gatherings and to collective charity eats in the streets!⁣ ⁣ Gheymeh “nazri”, often poorly made, but probably the most delicious of all Gheymeh, is the one cooked in HUGE cauldrons to feed a crowd. It’s a ritual some families perform during religious festivals, as a sign of gratitude for a prayer that has been answered, or an ill beloved who’s now cured, or just to give back. They would cook up large amounts of food that they would rapidly scoop into single portions and spread to the long queue of people waiting at the door. Not just Gheymeh, dishes vary from region to region. Sometimes even something sweet (my grandmother would cook saffron rice pudding with almonds every year, a dedication to my oldest uncle). ⁣ ⁣ Although the spirit of Nazri has been to feed the poor and do something for the neighborhood, it has also always functioned as a fun outdoor activity for the kids. Hunting the best place, with the best Nazri (free food!), sometimes while a bit drunk (shhh! No drinking at all during religious festivals!). It brings so many memories. Many involving sharing a “gheyme” and rice in a plastic dish with 2 or more friends on a sidewalk or on the car’s roof. ⁣ ⁣ #FlavorsAndEncounters #PersianFood #LabNoonFood #Gheymeh」5月30日 6時43分 - labnoon
