Let the Greater Honeyguide (Indicator indicator) lead you into the sweet weekend. The African native is named for its clever behavior of guiding larger animals to beehives to do the dirty work of breaking into hives for them. Once the bird locates a beehive, it calls and fans out its tail in attempt to gain the attention of honey badgers, baboons, or even humans. From there, the responder will break open the hive, likely for the honey—but this is not what the Greater Honeyguide is after. Rather, the bird feasts on the larvae and wax!
