Polynesia comes from the Ancient Greek words “Polys “( many) and “Nesos” ( islands). It is made up of over a thousand islands in the shape of a triangle; and stretches from New Zealand to Hawaii all the way across to Rapa Nui ( Easter island) near Chile.
Polynesians have similar language, cultural and physical traits despite being thousands of kms apart.
What’s really interesting is the pattern of migration that created Polynesia. DNA studies have shown that Polynesians originated from Taiwan/ Phillipines and migrated relatively quickly through Melanesia into Tonga and Samoa. From there, they navigated the seas all the way up to Hawaii, Rapa Nui and Aotearoa in nothing but small wooden outriggers with the stars to guide them. They didn’t know when and if they would hit land but left the safety of home to voyage and explore throughout the Pacific Ocean thousands of years before the stories of Captain Cook. They are some of the original great sea voyagers.
Polynesians are very proud of their history and culture and still to this day share the Mana or Spirit of being Polynesian.

we came from mayans & incans as well, unprecedented archaelogical findings that relate the dress/cultures of ancient tonga with some of the ancient native tribes that came from canaan / ישראל escaping assyrian captivity in 721 bc. this isnt on some religious stuff, this is just another look at the popular & well funded smithsonian theories that we are of asian origin.. also, DNA groups linking the same findings, its pretty far fetched that the large specially genetic polynesian tribes came purely from asiatic origin, but of course there has been all kinds of mixing now over the centuries.

@dulcevita1975 Hi,
I don’t think they are considered Polynesians but for sure the similarities between Philippines and Tonga & possibly other islands within the Pacific are close. For one, the Tongan alphabet is found in the Filipino alphabet, their pronunciation of words are eerie similar. Although I’m Tongan, I speak fluent filipino (aka Tagalog) because most of the words between the two languages have the same meaning n pronunciation. A lot of our features — well definitely in my family derive from Asian ancestry. This is very informative @pita_tofua malo aupito🙏🏼

@principessadipatate I know the Solomon Islands as a country fall under Melanesia, I'm talking about the race of people who live on specific islands there. I have travelled Solomon Is & have had family working there as missionaries over the years. Have you heard of the Lau group in FIJI? They are genetically POLYNESIAN not Melanesian. Oh well, respectfully agree to disagree but I'll go with DNA 😊

@am.ca.tu actually no. Solomon Is falls under Melanesia and the only country that falls in both Melanesia and Polynesia zone but most counts under Melanesia is Fiji. Might as well Google Melanesia Spearhead Group. These are countries that fall under Melanesia. Due to the skin colour (presence of Melanin) that's why these countries are called Melanesia

The link to Taiwan & Philippines is interesting Pita. I took a DNA test (dad's Tongan) & on ANCESTRY there was none of this in my DNA result. Ancestry is known to be the most 'accurate' with the widest database. It did however show up in the MY HERITAGE results. Who knows 🤷♀️

@principessadipatate ha, you're right but it's like places like the Solomon Is. Although it's Melanesia there are Polynesian Islands in those countries & the people there are Polynesian not Melanesian. I guess that's just the case with countless islands across vast oceans 😊
