French designer and architect Charlotte Perriand’s Low chair is a sturdy but flexible chair meant to be used bare (in humid or warm weather), or with removable cushions that Perriand fabricated in traditional kimono silk. Bamboo—light, strong, washable, pleasant to touch, and resistant to woodworm— was an organic and affordable material that attracted increased interest in the 1940s.
