Think eight tentacles is a lot? Tube anemones like this one @butterflypavilion have more than 200 tentacles making up their crown! Believe it or not this species makes use of every one of them, using them to capture the plankton, small fish, and crustaceans that make up its diet. Although usually fixed in place, this creature may leave its tubular shell in order to settle at a new location where it can produce a brand new tube. Several species of worms and crustaceans rely on the tube anemone for shelter, making the presence of this species important to the health of many underwater ecosystems. If you swim, dive, or snorkel, remember to admire the beauty of the tube anemone from afar as to not disturb it or the other species that call the anemone home.
