“I am burned out,” said one Denver teacher who works four jobs. The Mile-High City has become so expensive that teachers are forced to get creative to make ends meet: Most bunk with roommates, some wait tables, drive for ride-sharing companies, and one told CNN that he’s taken out loans to pay for a new apartment’s security deposit and first month’s rent. The teachers and Denver Public Schools have been negotiating for over a year to overhaul the district’s compensation system, to no avail. So on Monday, for the first time in 25 years, Denver teachers went on strike. (?: Kelsey Brown, Kevlyn Walsh)
