Former US first lady Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. She appeared on stage alongside Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez and host Alicia Keys, as she delivered a message on the importance of music. “Whether we like country, or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves — our dignity and sorrow, our hopes and joys... it allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in.” After the awards, she paid a special tribute to Alicia Keys on Twitter. "A big part of friendship is showing up for your girls—that’s why I was thrilled to be there for the one and only Alicia Keys at the #GRAMMYs.
