At a middle school career day, Cole Mattox and his peers were asked, “What does everyone want to be?” His peers provided typical answers like policeman, firefighter and professional athlete. But Mattox wrote down investment banker. “So, that’s where I am,” he said.

Mattox, now attending college at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, currently runs a hedge fund — which he launched out of his bedroom at just 17 years old. Mattox won’t say how much he makes running the fund, but he says he does “pretty well” and that the fund has over six figures in assets under management.
