I have done enough Christmases here, and heard sufficient stories about them from other people, to know that the holidays anxiety is a very real thing. Whether because you’re responsible of too many gifts, feasts, and just so many errands, or you’re not fond of the holidays because of past and/or present imperfections in your family (who hasn’t got them though, really?), let’s all take an effing moment to just SLOW DOWN. • I am saying this first to myself, and then expand the invitation to all of you who might be struggling with something similar. Nobody’s gonna die if you’re short of one perfect gift, or one perfect meal. We will all survive one party less, or one outfit less. • The winter holidays are supposed to be a moment to cosy up in blankets, light up candles, and yes, eat and drink and be merry too, but essentially to have a good time. We shouldn’t let anything else come before that. Think of quality time and meaningful added value for your loved ones. And whatever that is not necessary and essential can be just shut down. • Also, reach out a comforting hand to all those who for one reason or another, tend to not like the holidays. Often the reason is pretending there’s too much joy, when in fact there’s none, or too little. Let’s take off the pretend. This is not about being a Grinch, but just about feeling free to show however we are and aren’t feeling about the holiday season. • This year I am very aware of not having these anxieties as I will be travelling during the holidays, therefore I wish I could ease maybe just one second of somebody else’s discomfort in any way that I can. How are feeling about the holidays? Are you handling it all well? Are you okay? #FlavorsAndEncounters • P.S. @local_milk is hosting a #12daysofslowliving challenge which ai think can be a good reminder to slow down at least in one way in these days left to Christmas.
