I found this old photo tonight and it’s so interesting to see how much my path with journaling has evolved even down to my handwriting. So much change has transpired from that day until now. I remember being on a healing journey of learning to embrace certain parts of myself back then. It felt like a soft winter season of life where I was gently tucked away in the warmth of a safe cabin.

It’s surreal. The varying terrains of life. The paradox and juxtaposed flux of longing to get from one part to the other. There are so many quotes and proverbs of sages that speak of being present, yet much of the time if we’re honest it’s challenging to do just that with all the dynamics and complexities of life that we juggle from day to day. We get blessed respite from those oasis moments that make it easy to center and then it’s back to the mountain climbs and valley treks. This year has taught me through direct experience that while words hold power, they can also sorely miss the mark. You can’t tell a homeless person or someone struggling with the harshest of circumstances or those enduring the throes of grief and loss to “just be in the moment.” There is a time and a place. And it’s okay when a center can’t be found. It’s normal. It’s part of the mystery and experience of life. I’m not sure where I’m going with all this but I suppose that if any of you are going through the thick of it, it’s okay. Nothing is wrong with you. I’ve been there too. Many times. In some ways, I still am. I miss my dad and it changed my life. Yes I hold onto the precious memories but there is a part of my heart missing and I reckon I’ll always feel that. And that’s okay. And it’s okay with whatever it is that can’t be reckoned at the present time with you too. It’s a walk. One step at a time.
