Quietness. This is something I’ve always needed when life gets noisy. And have you ever noticed that when life is loud, people are loud as well? With our opinions, two cent thoughts, fix-its, solutions and whatnot. This is precisely when I need to retreat away from it all even if just for an hour walk in the woods until I hear the quiet murmur of my own soul again. The one person who understood this about me growing up was my father. He always knew when to back off and give me room to utilize my own soul ears. And it was a very empowering gift that demonstrated his belief and faith in me and my ability to use my intuition, logic and heart. It also demonstrated his own freedom within himself because he relinquished the need to control me. He didn’t change his affections towards me in the process of my learning. He respected me as a whole free person regardless if he agreed with me or not. That was probably one of the greatest gifts that he could have imparted to me. It’s so much easier to try to control because it caters and gives affirmation to the notion that “yes I am right, my perspective is the absolute truth, and I am wiser,” but it takes a great deal of strength, maturity and faith to let go and to understand that we all only see bits and pieces and sometimes, if not always, there is far more to the big picture and that patience goes a heck of a long way.
