Did you know—the ramp within the Guggenheim is often compared to a street winding up the rotunda, but when the museum opened, traffic literally drove through the building! Cars entered via Fifth Avenue, continued along a curved driveway, and exited onto 89th Street. The driveway was functional until 1975, and today that same footprint encompasses the retail shop and an extension of museum offices built in the 1990s (swipe left to view second photo). #Archtober
