Did you know there is a canid living in South America that is the only species of its genus? It is called the Maned wolf but it is not actually a wolf. It is more closely related to foxes but it is not a true fox. These canids are mostly found in the tall grassland in Brazil and some surrounding countries. The urine of the Maned wolf actually smells like marijuana which has caused authorities looking for users of the prohibited substance to instead find a Maned wolf, no doubt to their surprise. Unfortunately, the Maned wolf is endangered due to habitat destruction as well as being killed by ranchers believing they will harm their cattle and sheep. This is a false belief as their prey sources a generally much smaller. We believe the Maned wolf deserves to live both as a species and as individuals. Do you agree?
