A question I have been asked a lot in the past few days is “what are you doing next?” - The short answer is, I don’t actually know. But to provide slightly more context, I recently read an past interview Elizabeth Gilbert did with singer-songwriter Tom Waits, in it Waits said: “...as a songwriter, the only thing I do is make jewellery for the inside of people’s minds. That’s it”. ⠀

I thought about this a lot.⠀⠀

I hope that the last 15 years of SAMANTHA WILLS has been more than just jewellery. My intention when I started was to build a brand that people wanted to be a part of, a brand that stood for something, a brand that paid it forward and spoke with their community, not to it. I think Waits’ comment about “jewellery for the inside of people’s minds” is what the SAMANTHA WILLS brand has been through our values, our commitment to speaking vulnerably and the authentic connection with our consumer, it also just happened that jewellery was also the product in our business. ⠀ ⠀

From January next year I will be both writing a lot and also moving my focus to the @SamanthaWillsFoundation – I am adamant that the world doesn’t need anymore glamour stories or the overnight success headline, it was for those reasons that I started the foundation, because I believe everyone is going through the same shit, just not everyone is talking publicly about it. Starting a business is really fucking hard, it can feel incredibly isolating, and when shit hits the fan it can bring much anxiety and panic. I hope that bringing people together on the platform of the @SamanthaWillsFoundation to share the realness of this, through their stories, learnings and experience is what I believe is empowering. ⠀

So whats next? I don’t know. What I do know is that the thing that excites me in life is the human spirit, its kindness and mindfulness and the true impact it has on the world, and whatever I do next, it is going to be built off the basis of that, and be a bit less jewellery product, a bit more jewellery for the mind. - SWx⠀
