I read this article this morning, as it stated how I didn’t mention my business partner in yesterday’s announcement,I just wanted to explain why.
Geoff (Bainbridge) & I have been in business together for 11 years. He was the first person I told of my decision to close the business, & he could not have been more supportive. Geoff has driven the program we put in place for our incredible team on this announcement (Upto 6 months notice + redundancy + additional payout + mentoring & industry outreach on next career move) to make sure they are best supported in this transition. ⠀

He & I agreed together to keep yesterday’s announcement about the “Why” of the decision, as there will be a better time to thank everyone who has impacted this brand over the years. This brand eclipsed me many years ago, I often speak about that as create namesake you by default get all the public praise because you (ever so modestly!) named the brand after yourself. If it was JUST me, I would still be sitting at my dining table in Randwick with a pair of Bunnings pliers, some beads & a dream. ⠀

In 2007 I asked Geoff no less then 15 times if he would lend his business mind to my in-debt start up, I didn’t want any money I just wanted his advice & guidance because I knew the Samantha Wills Jewellery brand could be something pretty special, I just needed someone to help me on the business side of it. He kept declining as he was (rightly) too busy running multiple other (very profitable) business’. But on the 16th time I asked him, he said he “would think about it”, I took that to be as close to a yes as I’d ever get & that day arranged to have 30% equity transferred to him. ⠀ ⠀
With his business brain & my creative one, we have not had a loss making year since. (And I now buy the fancy individual packaged pliers from Bunnings,not the 3-in-1 value packs???) ⠀

We will be celebrating our entire team, mgmt & community through the coming 6 months, we have all been so incredibly overwhelmed from the love & support from yesterday’s announcement and are so truly grateful. ⠀
