Moondog tricks the eye. The 17-foot-high sculpture appears symmetrical and upright from some angles, from others it leans to one side, and its interlocking planar patterns seem to twist and shift as the viewer moves. The title salutes the street musician and poet Moondog, who wore a Viking helmet and played music on the streets near The Museum of Modern Art in the 1950s and 1960s. "All my sculpture,” artist Tony Smith said, “is on the edge of dreams.”

Experience “Moondog” and 20 other compelling works recently installed in #MoMAGarden as part of a new #ArtistsChoice exhibition organized by artist Peter Fischli.
