Today's #AllTooHuman artist is @sally_hewett: 'To quote the #AllTooHuman exhibition catalogue, “Jenny Saville’s self-portraits reflect the feminist critique of the female nude in Western art.” Her self-portraits are wonderfully visceral depictions of her own face and body with no attempt to disguise anything, but rather to exaggerate those characteristics which might usually be considered ugly.I am interested in how we see things and how we interpret what we see. Why do we see those characteristics that Jenny Saville portrays as ugly or even disgusting? I think a lot of people consider hairy nipples to be disgusting (along with every other sort of body hair) but ever since my first sight of hair around a female nipple, when I was about 10 or 11 years old, I’ve thought it a delightful thing. So I suppose I want to shout it out with this piece, Betty.The second image is a detail from a Nipple Sampler which I am currently working on. My usual embroidered nipples are small nipples with small areola - this is a BIG nipple. The sampler will show as many different examples of nipples, including hairy ones, as I can fit onto the linen.' - Sally Hewett
