Today's #AllTooHumanArtist is @sally_hewett: 'All the painters in #AllTooHuman use paint layering in one way or another. These pieces are attempts to make successful black skin pieces. I had made several pieces with black lycra but they didn’t in any way look like black skin. I spoke to a black man at the Knitting and Stitching show and while I stared at his beautiful skin we discussed how to make convincing black skin pieces. We came up with layering – I use tan fabric of various shades covered by translucent dark brown or black fabric so that the under fabric shows through. Here you can see two early pieces which are matt black and two later pieces which have more warmth of colour and are more fleshlike in texture.' - Sally Hewett
