Yesterday we discovered, with a thud and a sting, that the big, brave steps we were taking towards a big, bold dream were actually marching us straight towards...a big brick wall.
It's humbling to falter like this. And it can be challenging to do it as a couple. You can't pull the other up when you're both flat on your backs in the dust. You just sort of lie there, side by side for a sec, not sure who will be the first to rise. And maybe you feel a little silly, too, like when you're strolling along and you stumble, and you look around to see if anyone saw before you even check to make sure you're okay.
I am prone to self-consciousness, and when I fail I long to do it privately. But that privacy doesn't exist in a marriage.
So there we sat yesterday, bumped and bruised, feeling a little foolish and more than a little bummed. But then we went outside. And just like that: We both rose up. xo.
