We’re back at this charming little nook of a cafe again. It’s been an interesting morning. Sometimes I debate whether or not to share some of the thoughts I process in regards to my dad. One thing that I’ve been reminded of is how uncomfortable it is to see someone we love or care about walk through any form of sadness. Our knee jerk reaction is to make them happy. But one thing I’ve also learned from being on this side of it is that not all feelings of sadness translate into a state of being. Yes, I’m sad my father’s physical presence in my life is gone. But I’m extremely grateful for today - my health, my family’s health, waking up in a peaceful home, and countless other gifts that make the quality of our lives anything but lacking. My son and I laughed to tears over lunch because of our inside jokes. Now we’re about to head to an antique shop that’s in an old Victorian-style home. In all of it, I still feel sadness, but I also feel true joy. Our hearts are beautifully layered, complex and mysterious that we can simultaneously experience and feel opposing forces and it be totally okay. And I think that that’s beautiful. It’s part of being alive. So I would say here’s to life, in all of its symmetry and asymmetry alike. Here’s to beauty in both the happy and the melancholy, in the sunshine and rain. I’m thankful for all of it. And I’m thankful for all of you. Especially in your kindness and grace. How lucky I am. ❤️
