“This ‘Graphic Object,’ an inscribed sheet of Japanese paper sandwiched in transparent acrylic, comes from an intense moment of experimentation in the mid-1960s, when Schendel was exploring experimental writing, minimal abstract gestures, elliptical configurations, and repetition of letters and lines over translucent thin sheets of paper like this one.
