The Awã are considered to be one of the most imperilled tribes in the Amazon. Their land is shrinking, pressured by illegal logging and agriculture. Some remain in isolation, cut off from the outside world; others live in small communities within their reserves. This image was taken a few weeks ago. I had accompanied a few family groups into the forest to collect honey; the seeds on the forest floor where obviously a welcome gift as several people spent at least an hour methodically searching through the leaf litter for them. The seeds were to be used to adorn bracelets and necklaces. Shot on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック in Brazil.
