Photo by @johnstanmeyer - Follow @OutofEdenWalk, Paul Salopek’s 12 year journey walking in the footsteps of our ancestors, a long term project I have been working on with Paul and National Geographic for nearly five years. - A Soviet-era passengerjj jet looms outside a café in Andijon, Uzbekistan, a key stopping point on the Silk Road. - Personal Notes: There is always beauty in strangeness. One evening while driving towards the hotel in Andijan, faintly to my right I glanced upon what looked to be a plane, right in the middle of this bustling city. Excited, which is easy for me, I decided one evening to return and find this flying machine, asking a taxi driver if he knew of a strange plane sandwiched between buildings. Seemingly befuddled by my elated behavior, he casually took us to this relic of the Soviet times, dropping us off, not knowing why I found it so interesting. It took awhile to understand how to approach this projectile, frozen both in time and position of take off. Standing upon a railing, waiting for the right passage of people, the night, the light, to give what I felt hours earlier when seeing this strangeness while driving by in the periphery. - My latest story in @NatGeo, in this months issue, The New Silk Road, our overland journey through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan photographed throughout 2016 and early 2017.
