I can remember when I saw my first blue whale. My mother took my out whale watching for my 10th birthday and we came across two blue whales out in Monterey Bay. At the time, this was an extremely rare sighting. Blue whale numbers were very low, only between 5,000-8,000 were left. Today, there's still only about 10-15,000 swimming our oceans today, a fraction of what there once were. I feel extremely fortunate every day I am lucky enough to see one because only 1% of whale watchers will ever lay eyes on one of these giants. Incredible to think about that in the almost 4 billion years life has existed on earth, we get to share our time here with the largest creature that has ever roamed.
