While out on the water yesterday, I was lucky enough to spot a tufted puffin. They tend to be one of the more rarely seen residents in Monterey Bay and I was thrilled to see it, even though it had already shifted to its winter plumage. It did get me thinking about the thousands of puffins I saw in Iceland a few months ago and how few photos I've been able to get through of them. This puffin here is the Atlantic version, which tends to be the most well-known of all the puffin types. It's hard to find a much cuter and more fun to watch bird!
